The finishing touches are being put on the Epworth Project in Camberwell. The project started in late 2011 with the relocation of existing services and infrastructure along with demolition of the old building. Works continued with the excavation of the two level basement while adjacent wards and facilities remained open and operational.
Progress has come a long way to the completion of the new wards which accommodate 68 new beds and the associated consulting suites, offices, meeting spaces, recovery suites. It also includes a kitchen and staff dining, Café, Pharmacy, Radiology and basement car park. The last phase of the works, refurbishment of the existing building for a sleep study unit and patient dining, is now being completed.
Epworth have moved in to the site and are currently occupying the completed areas while the occupation of the Psychiatric beds is expected in August. The overall completion of the project in late August is a month ahead of contract completion despite the existing hospital remaining operational throughout the construction period.
