Greek Community Centre

Greek Community Centre

6th Aug 2013

Construction of the Greek Orthodox Community Centre in Melbourne’s CBD commenced in May 2013 with the demolition of the existing 4 storey structure previously occupying the site and was followed by the excavation of the basement.  The basement works, which involved full perimeter piling taking a combination of retention and foundation loads, were designed to cantilever on three sides with a substantial bracing system to the northern elevation where a neighbouring 3 storey building is on the boundary.

The new development will provide 14 levels of open plan office space in a prime location on the corner of Lonsdale and Russell St.  The Bruce Henderson design also includes retail and restaurant tenancies on the ground floor which will integrate the new building into the vibrant city scape surrounding the site.
